Borned as a party band in 1987 it became in a short time
one of the most remarkable reality inside the rock'n'roll made in Italy.
Certainly one of the most striking aspects concerning the musical background of
a town like Bologna was nearly an unrestrained love, sometimes unbridled lived,
for rock’n’roll, which beyond music traditionally concerns the pursuit of fun,
living the night, drinks and girls longing for America tourned into music and
into the shows. In 1988 they started the recording of their first album "Stay
out of jail", taking advantage of the favorable moment of the style which they
proposed and being produced by Steve Berlin Los Lobos’ producer/saxophonist who
gave to the product the right striking sound. The included songs are all
original except " I'm on fire", cover of Jerry Lee Lewis’ song. Partecipating as
guests to the record were: David Hidago of the Lobos with his accordion with a
piece that seemed to be made for him: "Downtown ride". Dave Alvin of the
Blasters who leaves a mark with a wonderful solo in "Rock'n'roll heroes"
dedicated and about the rock ‘s epoch-making myths, Lee Allen, already
saxophonist with Fats Domino and Little Richard recorded in the JDL’s album two
marvellous solos in "Downtown ride" and "Alligator Shoes" respectively. The
album came out in 1989 and followed the group during national tv shows, Italian
and foreign concerts included a succesfully tour in the ex U.S.S.R. On their
retourn, on June 1989 they opened up the Stray Cats’ concert during their only
Italian date at the Rolling Stone, a big venue in Milan. Later on they recorded
a mini-album that, exception made for some vinyl copies will never be on sale
because of the record’s company drop out (I’ll insert musical files, full high
quality mp3's in the download section of this site to spread out those that
until now have been unreleased), this caused a strong sullenness that brought
some members of the band to give up, other skillful musicians sobstitute them
giving a new start in the group’s life. So, in 1992, with an almost brand new
set the Jack Daniel's Lovers start up working on composition and recording of
the new CD “Per non crescere mai” which then will be published by the Italian
WEA. The record includes ten original Italian pieces, trends, that mix together
the rock'n'roll of the origins, the rhithm'n'blues assimilated during the latest
years and the more “up-to-date” rock recently heard in so many Italian
productions. Even having a remarkable feedback from critics and pubblic, the
record’s company droped out once more stoping to back the group and signing it’s
end, general sad practice usual to new bands that are produced, launched on the
market and then neglected. This is briefly, with few words but a lot of heart
the story of a group that has had so many things to tell, many of which have
already been told and much more it could be told on stages and in record rooms.
Anyway, it has been heard about a probable retourn of the band, may be only
once, even if I’m sure that this could be the chance for a new chapter in the
story that I have told you so…
Watch out!!! Are the Jack Daniel’s lover back?
